Teaching Empathic Horsemanship Based On Classical Principles.
I am passionate about making life better for our horses, and about helping to sweep away the many damaging and inappropriate practices which lead to misunderstanding and misconceptions.
You'll get a feel for my own development as a horseman from reading my Blog.
Where others choose to compete, or simply enjoy riding, my curiosity has led me to academic study and to exploring horsemanship in all its diversity. Driven by a desire to understand the horse and how we can best work together, I have sought out teachers of softness, feel, empathy, correctness and clarity such as Mark Rashid, Warwick Schiller, Sally Swift, Andreas Hausberger, and Bonny Mealand.
Combining this training with a sound, science based understanding of horse behaviour and scientific learning theory allows me to offer owners clear, mindful help as they seek to gain, improve and develop their skills in handling and riding.
I'm very aware of the current debate around equestrianism's Social Licence to Operate, and I think the time is now for a sea change in our approach to working with horses. They are the silent victims of so much ignorance and misuse, but if the way handling and riding are taught can be persuaded to evolve and improve, I see no reason why we should not retain the privilege of being allowed to continue a relationship to which humanity owes so much.
Through developing mindfulness the handler or rider gains the ability to recognise and be aware of the horse's physical and emotional wellbeing and to embark on a journey towards partnership.
So, if you are looking for an approach which is sympathetic to the horse while encouraging you to take responsibility for your own part in developing a happy partnership, I can help.
Centered Riding® or Empathic Horsemanship lessons are £40 per hour for individuals
or £30 per person for a shared lesson plus travel.
